RESTORATIVE DENTISTRY — DUM DUM

Restorative treatment at our Dum Dum clinic

Restorative dentistry is the repair side of the work — putting back what decay, wear, fracture or loss has taken away. Most patients arrive with a specific tooth in mind. The examination usually finds that it is not acting alone.

A tooth lost on one side means the other side takes more load, and teeth that carry more load wear and crack sooner. A filling that keeps failing is often failing because of how the bite closes on it. At Gupta Dental we look at the whole bite before rebuilding a single tooth, because a restoration that does not account for the forces on it will come back.

RESTORATIVE BENEFITS

Why Damaged Teeth Should Be Restored Early?

Damage in a tooth does not stabilise. It progresses, and each stage costs more and removes more of the tooth than the one before it.

  • Decay Stops Spreading: A small cavity restored early stays a filling. Left alone it reaches the nerve, and the same tooth then needs a root canal and a crown.
  • Cracks Do Not Deepen: A cracked tooth splits further along the same line under normal chewing. Sealing or crowning it early is often the difference between keeping and losing it.
  • Chewing Returns to Normal: People with a painful or missing tooth chew on one side without noticing. That habit overloads the working side and wears it down faster.
  • Neighbouring Teeth Stay in Place: Teeth drift and tilt into a gap over the years, and the opposing tooth drifts down into the space. Restoring the gap early avoids a much larger correction later.
  • The Bite Height Is Preserved: Extensively worn teeth shorten the face and strain the jaw joint. Rebuilding before that happens is simpler than rebuilding afterwards.
  • Costs Stay Contained: The progression from filling to root canal to crown to implant runs in one direction, and each step is several times the price of the one before.

Removable replacement of several all teeth made to fit & adjusted until chewing & speech settle.

Post & Core Build-Up

Rebuilding a badly broken-down tooth after root canal treatment so it can hold a crown.

Bridges

Replacement of one or more missing teeth using the teeth on either side as support, fixed in place rather than removable.

Tooth-Coloured Fillings

Composite restorations for decayed or chipped teeth, matched to the natural shade and bonded to the remaining tooth.

Inlays and Onlays

Custom-made restorations for cavities too large for a filling but not large enough to need a full crown, preserving more of the natural tooth.

Full-coverage caps that protect a weakened, cracked or root-treated tooth and restore its shape and chewing surface.

Worn Tooth Restoration

Rebuilding teeth flattened by grinding or acid erosion, with the cause addressed alongside the repair.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does restorative dental treatment cost in Dum Dum?
It varies widely because the treatments are different. A composite filling is among the least expensive procedures in dentistry. Crowns sit considerably higher and the price depends on the material — metal-ceramic at the lower end, zirconia and all-ceramic above it. A bridge is broadly priced per unit, so a three-unit bridge costs roughly three crowns. Dentures and implant restorations are separate again. You will be given an itemised estimate after the examination, with the alternatives priced alongside so you can compare properly.
How do I choose a clinic for restorative work in Dum Dum?
Ask whether your bite will be checked before the tooth is rebuilt, because that is the most common reason restorations fail early. Ask what the alternatives are and what each one costs and lasts, since a clinic that offers only the most expensive option is not assessing, it is selling. And ask what material the crown is and what warranty, if any, applies.
Filling or crown — which does my tooth need?
It depends on how much sound tooth is left. Where the cavity is moderate and the walls of the tooth are intact, a filling is correct. Where the tooth is cracked, root-treated, or so much structure has gone that the remaining walls would fracture under chewing, a crown protects it. An honest answer requires looking at the tooth, and we will tell you when a filling will do.
How long do fillings and crowns last?
Composite fillings commonly last five to ten years depending on size, position and how heavily you chew or grind. Well-fitted crowns commonly last ten to fifteen years and often longer. The gum condition around the restoration and your cleaning at home affect that lifespan more than the material does.
Will the restoration match my other teeth?
Composite fillings, ceramic and zirconia crowns are shade-matched to the teeth beside them. Metal-ceramic crowns can show a dark line at the gum after some years, which is why all-ceramic is generally preferred at the front. You will be shown the shade before it is finalised.
Can a badly broken tooth still be saved?
Often, yes. What decides it is how much sound tooth remains above the gum line and whether the root is intact. A tooth fractured below the gum, or one where decay has undermined the root, may not be restorable. We will tell you before you commit to a course of treatment whether the tooth is worth restoring or whether replacing it is the better use of your money.
