ORAL SURGERY — DUM DUM

Oral surgery at our Dum Dum clinic

Most people arrive for oral surgery after putting it off. A wisdom tooth that flares up every few months, a gum problem that has been treated with antibiotics three times, a tooth that cannot be saved. At Gupta Dental, we carry out minor oral and periodontal surgery in Kolkata — planned on imaging, performed under local anaesthesia, with the aftercare explained before you leave.

Whether you need an impacted wisdom tooth removed, gum surgery for advanced periodontal disease, or a site prepared before an implant, procedures are planned around the anatomy of your case rather than a standard protocol.

Surgical Benefits

Why Timely Oral Surgery Matters

  • Surgery is the treatment people postpone longest, and the delay usually makes the eventual procedure harder rather than avoiding it.
  • Recurring Infection Stops: A partially erupted wisdom tooth traps food and bacteria under the gum flap. Antibiotics settle each episode, but only removal ends the cycle.
  • Neighbouring Teeth Are Protected: An angled wisdom tooth presses against the molar in front, and decay on that contact point often costs you a healthy tooth as well.
  • Bone Damage Is Prevented: Retained impacted teeth can develop cysts that hollow out bone silently, and treating that is considerably more involved than an extraction.
  • Recovery Is Easier When You Are Younger: Roots are less developed and bone is less dense in the twenties, which is why the same tooth is a simpler case at twenty-five than at forty-five.
  • Gum Disease Is Halted: Flap surgery reaches deposits below the gum line that scaling cannot, which is what stops progressive bone loss around the teeth.
  • Chronic Pain Ends: Persistent pain that has been managed with painkillers for months usually resolves once its source is treated.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does wisdom tooth removal cost in Dum Dum?
It depends entirely on how the tooth is positioned. A fully erupted wisdom tooth that can simply be lifted out sits at the lower end, around the cost of a routine extraction. A partially impacted tooth needing a gum incision commonly runs between ₹4,000 and ₹8,000, and a fully bony-impacted tooth, or a case done under sedation, higher again. Across India the overall range is roughly ₹2,000 to ₹15,000 per tooth. Nobody can quote you accurately over the phone — the position is only clear on an X-ray, and we give you the figure after that.
How do I choose the right clinic for oral surgery in Dum Dum?
Ask whether an X-ray is taken before the procedure is quoted, because a deep impaction sits close to the inferior alveolar nerve and that has to be seen before surgery, not discovered during it. Ask who is performing the procedure and in which branch they specialise. And tell them your full medical history — a clinic that takes it seriously and adjusts the plan is the one handling you safely.
Is oral surgery painful?
Not during the procedure. The area is fully numbed with local anaesthesia and you should feel pressure and movement rather than pain. Afterwards, swelling and soreness for a few days is normal and is managed with prescribed medication and ice. Complex surgical extractions are sorer than simple ones, and we tell you which yours is beforehand.
How long does recovery take?
Most patients return to normal routine within two to three days after a simple extraction, and three to five after a surgical one. Complete healing of the socket takes a few weeks. The first twenty-four hours matter most — no rinsing, no smoking and no straws, since disturbing the clot is what causes dry socket, the most common and most avoidable complication.
Do all wisdom teeth need to be removed?
No. A wisdom tooth that has erupted fully, sits in the correct position, meets the tooth above it and can be cleaned properly should be left alone. Removal is indicated when the tooth is impacted, repeatedly infected, decayed, causing crowding or damaging the tooth in front. If yours is symptom-free, we will say so rather than recommend surgery.
Does insurance cover oral surgery?
Sometimes, unlike most dental treatment. Policies generally exclude outpatient dental work, but surgical extractions carried out under general anaesthesia with hospital admission, and surgery following an accident, are covered under many policies. It depends on your specific policy wording. Check with your insurer beforehand, and we will provide the surgical notes and documentation your claim requires.
